Above is a graphic by Alexis J. Cunningfolk of Worts & Cunning Apothecary, illustrating sliding scale options through three potion bottles. Each bottle reflects a financial experience and class.

  • Left Bottle: Filled with vibrant green potion, representing the upper end of the sliding scale for those who align with higher financial stability.

  • Middle Bottle: Represents a mix, for individuals who may sometimes pay at the upper, middle, or lower end of the scale.

  • Right Bottle: Indicates the lowest end of the scale for those needing the most financial flexibility.

This visual beautifully captures the fluidity and accessibility of a sliding scale system.

Sliding Scale Policy

EQUITY PRICING FOR ACCESSIBILITY

At Healgood, we are dedicated to making mental health care accessible while ensuring our clinicians are fairly compensated. To support this mission, we offer a sliding scale or equity pricing option for clients who may need financial flexibility.

How It Works

Our sliding scale system allows clients to pay for services based on their financial circumstances. Because sliding scale spaces are limited, we ask clients to discuss their needs with their clinician. Each clinician has their own sliding scale range, which is typically commensurate with their standard fee and level of experience. Clinicians with greater experience may have higher standard fees, and their sliding scale openings may not go as low as others.

Fee Breakdown:

  • Standard Rate:

    • This is the base price for our services (provided above), reflecting the true cost of providing care. If you are not experiencing financial hardship, we encourage you to pay this rate to support our clinicians and sustain the accessibility of services for others.

  • Sliding Scale or Equity Pricing:

    • This reduced fee is available for clients for whom the standard rate would create a financial burden. Fees vary by clinician and are dependent on the clinician's experience and current availability of sliding scale openings.

Guidance for Selecting Your Rate

  • Choose the Standard Rate if you have stable income, savings, or financial resources that allow you to pay the full fee without significant hardship.

  • Consider discussing Sliding Scale Options with your clinician if paying the standard rate would impact your ability to meet basic needs (e.g., rent, groceries) or if you are experiencing financial challenges such as job loss, high medical expenses, or supporting dependents.

Equity in Practice

This policy relies on a trust-based system where clients self-select their rate in discussion with their clinician. By choosing the highest rate you can afford, you help sustain our practice and make services accessible to others.

We invite you to visit Embracing an Equitable Sliding Scale to find more information and our motivation for instituting this policy. Since sliding scale rates are a tool of accountability in social (specifically economic) justice, it is an ongoing conversation and our clinicians remain committed to helping folks figure out how to talk about their own economic experiences.

If you have questions or would like to discuss sliding scale availability, please contact your clinician. Thank you for supporting a system that prioritizes care, fairness, and community well-being.
